Cyrotherapy for Genital Warts Treatment
Before you admit yourself for the cyrotherapy, there are a few facts that you need to know about this genital wart treatment. First of all, cyrotherapy is defined as a process whereby extremely low temperatures are used to destroy abnormal growths in the body. Experts regard this as the most effective method to treat and get rid of genital warts. This procedure isn’t only used to treat warts by also to treat other skin disorders such as skin tags, solar Kerasotes as well as moles. Apart from this medical procedure, there are many other ways of treating this skin disease and depending on your severity level, your doctor will know what to administer.
This procedure can also be done by a trained doctor that is skilled in treating skin disorders. Cyrotherapy should not be performed alone, even if you have access to the equipments and materials needed. The hospital surgery room is where this procedure will take place. In cyrotherapy, liquid nitrogen is the main element in this procedure. What is done is that this liquid nitrogen sprayed onto the affected areas because this will freeze the cells and tissues of the genital warts. Because the warts are targeted at the cellular level, the process becomes more effective. The result of this is that blister forms around the infected area. This blister heals after several days and as it heals, the wart eventually falls off. You would need to undergo several sessions in order to remove all warts.
Cyrotherapy is by far the most expensive form of genital warts treatment but the most effective, especially for the sufferers who have severe symptoms. Creams and medication would probably be effective for those with less severe symptoms. This process is less invasive and has lesser and milder side effects than other surgical treatments such as itching and scarring. Patients might experience pain and redness in the treated area a few days after the removal procedure and blisters can also occur. This is common in most cases and is nothing to worry about. But just to provide temporary relief, doctors often prescribe oral pain relieving medications as well as topical steroid creams.
Be aware though that even cyrotherapy cannot totally remove the HPV from the affected area though the warts are gone and there is no definite assurance that genital warts will not re-appear in the future. Since HPV is viral, chances are that the infection is incurable. Cyrotherapy will only eradicate the genital warts at the moment of the surgery and remove the virus that causes it. Fortunately, studies show that the HPV infection of about 70% of the population usually clears after a year.
Apart from cyrotherapy, doctors also administer creams and other forms of treatment measures for less severe cases of genital warts which are meant to be taken orally and are for application purposes on the wart only. Apart from Aldara and Condylox, another genital wart treatment given by doctors to treat genital warts is tricholoroacetic acid treatment. This treatment involves the application of the acid on the warts to burn them off.
Another cream for a less severe case of warts, there is also Podofin. This cream is a podophyllum resin which is administered to be topically applied under the guidance of a qualified medical practitioner. Your doctor will show you how to effectively apply this treatment. Normally these creams are only meant to be applied on the wart and not the surrounding skin as this can cause aggravation.
Last but not least is Efudex. This cream is a medication that is often recommended for long term use. This genital wart medication is often a last resort as it has many side effects and it should be administered only by a doctor. If you are currently using any of the creams mentioned above, you are advised to abstain from sexual intercourse during this period as the creams can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms.
Genital warts, though cannot be completely eliminated can be prevented by exercising necessary prevention methods such as safe sex, using proper protection and practicing proper hygiene methods when using public toilets and washrooms. Since the virus spreads easily, it can be present at public areas. Practicing good hygiene and protected sex can save you from contracting this virus.
