All Therapeutic Treatments Aim At Removal Of Genital Warts, Rather Than Curing Human Papillomavirus
Condyloma, Condylomata acuminates, Venereal wart, Verruca acuminata, Fig wart, Moist wart, Pointed wart, Anogenital wart or anal wart are all different names genital warts, These warts are outer manifestation of a highly contagious sexually transmitted virus called human papillomavirus or HPV. Although, traditional theory suggests that there is no cure for human papillomavirus, new studies involving DNA techniques have shown that the virus can either be removed or suppressed to such levels through immunological response that it cannot be harmful. However, even to this day pharmaceutical researchers concentrate more on how to remove genital warts rather than how to cure human papillomavirus.
Genital warts generally occur on skins and mucus membrane lining. You will find them inside or outside the vagina, on the opening of the uterus, on the tip as well as the shaft of the penis, on the scrotum, around the anus and inside the mouth or the throat of those who indulge in oral sex. When particles of the stain 6 or 11 of human papillomavirus penetrate the skin and the mucosal surfaces through microscopic abrasions in the genital area during sexual activities, genital warts are caused, though not immediately. Once the virus enters the body, they undergo a latency period of months or even years before the first wart become visible. Unfortunately, human papillomavirus can infect other people in this latent stage as well.
Therefore, if your sexual partner does not have any genital wart does not mean that you are safe from the attacks of the human papillomavirus. In fact, studies have shown that 1% of the sexually active population grow genital warts. Use of condom can save you to some extend, but cannot totally save you from skin-to-skin contact and therefore not hundred percent effective. If you are sexually active, you can however, take vaccine against human papillomavirus, strain 16, 18, 6 and 11. Gardasil marketed by Mark & Co. should be taken before exposure to human papillomavirus because it is a preventive medicine rather than therapeutic.
All therapeutic treatments aim at removal of genital warts, rather than curing human papillomavirus. You can remove genital warts by surgical method and by medications. There are more than one surgical method to be followed, but none guarantees removal of warts for good. In most cases, warts recur after few months. Following are some surgical method used by the doctors to remove genital warts.
1. The success rate of Liquid Nitrogen Cryosurgery is 71% to 79%. In this method, liquid nitrogen is used to kill the genital warts. However, warts recur within 6 months 38% to 73% of times. Since it is safe mode of removal of warts even for pregnant women, it is quite a popular method.
2. Removal by applying Trichloroacetic acid is less effective than cryosurgery, and cannot be used in places like vagina, cervix etc.
3. Application a 20% podophyllin anti-mitotic solution on effected area needs to be done by a physician and it is not recommended for use on parts like vagina, urethra, cervix etc. Besides, this method is accompanied by side effects such as fever, nausea, vomiting and even coma.
4. Surgical excision is successful on large warts.
5. Laser ablation is expensive, but does not seem to be that effective.
Genital wart medication usually consists of creams, gel and lotions. There are also injections like Alpha Interferon, which is quite effective, but inconsistent and very expensive. Imiquimod or podofilox are some of the creams, which the patient can himself apply directly on the genital warts. Such creams need to be applied 3/4 days per week, but not more than two or three months. In fact, these creams are all prescription drugs that need to be applied according to the direction of the doctors. Use of more than prescribed quantity will have dangerous side effects. Besides none of them guarantees full recovery.
On the other hand, some homeopathic and herbal medications promise to draw out the genital warts from the roots and once the warts are removed this way it cannot recur. Watrol, Dermisil or Heal Wart are some such medications that you can buy online. You are advised to use Watrol for three months for total cure, but you should see improvement within one week of application. It boasts of 97% of success and guarantees no side effects.
Heal Warts take four to six weeks to take action. However, many users favor it, as it is very gentle on the skin. If your genital warts do not have pain or do not bleed, you can try it. Dermisil has been rated third best medicine by users and professionals alike. It is gentle on the skin and one should take it for at least six months for full eradication of genital warts.
