The Efficacy of Some Genital Wart Medication
Condylomata acuminate (genital warts) are small lumps that appear within the area of the genitals. They can appear around the anus as well as on the penis. Genital warts can also be found on the vaginal openings as well as insides of the vagina.
Genital warts are very contagious. They are especially transmitted thru unprotected sexual intercourse. The first symptoms of genital wart infection can within eight to 18 months after initial contact. The long gestation period can make any person falsely believe that he or she is not infected thus genital wart treatment is not necessary.
Genital warts are harmless and cannot cause any serious or damaging effects on the body.
However, further researches also show that it can also be a cause for cancer cells to develop in the affected area. Warts especially found to be growing in abnormal sizes should immediately be consulted to a medical doctor. Early diagnosis and genital wart treatment can prevent any untoward incident.
The cause of genital warts is the so-called human papilloma virus or HPV. Studies have shown that more than 60 strains of these viruses are harmless. But researches also showed that not a few can also carry the cancer cells that can lead to cancerous genital warts. This possibility is remote but the threat is always imminent.
Cancers such as cervical or penile cancer can develop from these simple and “harmless” warts. Early detection and genital warts treatment are necessary in some of these cases. Before any treatment should be undertaken, it is best to consult your doctor.
There are many ways for genital wart treatment. Some are effective and some are not. The expected results largely depend upon the person and the extent of the infection. As they say, different strokes for different folks.
Medical doctors usually prescribe the application of chemical solutions like podophyllin and/or trichloroacetic acid. The acid solution slowly destroys the unhealthy skin cells being destroyed by the virus. But caution should be undertaken if using this kind of cure as the solution contains chemicals and acids. The acids can also affect the surrounding healthy skin tissues which can cause it to be discolored.
Doctors also prescribe using the liquid nitrogen method or the cryosurgery method. The liquid nitrogen can freeze the warts and once frozen it would be easier to physically remove the warts.
This method is best used for the permanent removal of warts.
Another method used is electrocauterization. This requires the burning of the warts with electricity or laser. A thin needle is heated and this is immediately and directly applied to the warts. This is the process of cutting and cauterizing the skin simultaneously and physically removing the warts permanently.
Curettage is another way to remove warts. The warts are scraped off the skin but this is only done after the skin is numbed by the injection of local anesthetics. Genital warts can also be treated by injecting the drug interferon directly into the warts.
And lastly, another genital warts treatment being used today is thru the use of warts cream. The cream or ointment is directly applied to the warts over a period of time until the wart dries up or totally falls off the skin.
Your doctor may prescribe a more effective kind of genital wart medication or treatment. This can either be attained by freezing it with liquid nitrogen or burning it with electricity or the application of ointments or creams. Whatever method is adopted by your doctor, the positive results expected can sometimes be attained only after several sessions or visits.
Warts especially those found in the genital area should be treated carefully because the genital area is a very sensitive part of the body. Any form of medication or alteration introduced to it without proper medical consultation or advice can cause irreparable damage and may also lead to other serious problem. Choose only the genital warts treatment that you are most comfortable with.
