A lump on the uppermost layer of the skin is called a wart.  This is produced when a virus attacks the skin cells.  Because of the attack or intrusion the skin cell is damaged thus making the virus to become more numerous.  Medically the wart can easily be transmitted because it is highly contagious.

The warts can be transferred from one person to another simply thru touch.  That is how contagious it is.  Warts can be classified as facial warts or genital warts and can also grow anywhere in the body.  Whether warts appearing in the body are small or uncomfortably big should undergo treatment for genital warts.  Aside from being contagious they are also very unsightly and can cause embarrassment for an infected person.

According to medical literature, there are several types of warts and are caused by different viruses.  The verruca or plantar wart is the most common wart.  This wart can be found on the bottom of the foot.  Because of the rather moist and warm environment of feet constantly enclosed by unventilated shoes this wart propagates itself rather quickly in this area.

Plantar warts are lumpy, horny, small, hard, colored white or pink and with a surface resembling that of a cauliflower.  And if viewed closely you can see that it has a form of netted veins all throughout the warts.

Many people are testifying that some genital warts cream are effective.  Some of these medications can remove or eliminate warts in just a couple of days thru constant application.  These medications can be had over the counter in most drugstores.  Genital warts cream contain chemicals that can destroy the wart viruses.

Yet, caution should be undertaken as some of these creams contain large amount of chemicals that may cause undue side effects for some type of skins.  It is always best to consult your doctor for a specific medication that is suited for you.  Some side effects may include discoloration and itching.

Another way in the treatment for genital warts includes freezing the warts thru the use of liquid nitrogen.  Once it is frozen removing it surgically can be easy.  Another way is to burn it with electricity thru cauterization.  Just a few session of treatment can allow the warts to fall off easily.

It takes around eight to 18 months before the first symptoms of genital warts appear on the body.  Thus, many people are unaware that they are already infected with genital warts.
Genital warts are caused by the human papilloma virus or HPV.  Most of the strains of this virus are harmless but several of these strains can cause genital cancers like cervical cancer and penile cancer if not detected early on.  It is thus important in treating genital warts at the onset or the first signs of symptoms.
What then are the ways to determine if we are infected with genital warts?
Women should undergo physical medical examination.  These examinations can include Pap smear where the doctor gets a small sample of the cervix.  The small samples are then brought to the laboratory for examination.  Another type of examination is the so-called colposcope.  Colposcope is an instrument used for viewing the inside of the vagina as well as of the cervix.  Medical doctors are trained in visually determining the presence of genital warts inside the vagina.
Blood samples should be taken and sent to the laboratory for testing.  This exam can also identify other forms of sexually transmitted disease.
And lastly a biopsy should also be undertaken where a small tissue is removed and then having it examined inside the laboratory.  This process can also determine if the sample tissue is cancerous or not.  They can thus, deduce that the surrounding tissue might also be cancerous and treatment could immediately start.
