Overview of Genital Warts Removal Techniques
If you are a victim of genital warts, then you need not worry these days. There are several treatment options for the genital warts removal. Few of the major treatment options are as follows:
o Genital wart medications
o Cryocautery
o Laser treatments
o Electrocautery
o Surgical excision
All of the above mentioned genital wart treatments do not cure you of the virus that causes the genital warts. These treatments only dissolve or destroy the external appearances of the genital wart infections. After few months or years of the genital wart treatments, the genital warts reappear. Genital warts can be compared to weeds in a field. The weeds are cut off and you feel that your field is completely safe. However, when favorable conditions are available, the weeds resurface.
Lots of research is currently being done in the field of genital warts treatment all over the world. In fact, in the United States of America, a vaccine was developed in the year 2006. This vaccine was successful in protecting women against 4 major types of cervical genital HPV. The name of this vaccine is Gardasil and is supposed to be 95-100% effective. There is an age limit for this vaccine for girls and women.
The age limit is from 9 years to 26 years. However, one thing that needs to be noted is that this vaccine will be less effective if the girl or lady is sexually active before the vaccination. Currently, Gardasil is available mostly in the United States of America.
When you go to a doctor for the treatment of genital warts, the doctor may do few tests to identify if the outgrowths are actually genital warts and not some other infection. Most often, people cannot make out the difference between genital warts and other infections such as Angiokeratomas, pimples, spots, or pearly penile papules. To confirm the presence of genital warts, the doctors first conduct a physical examination, where they observe the infected area very closely.
Some doctors may also use a magnifying lens for better view of the genital warts. Further, the doctors may also apply a vinegar-like solution to the infected area for better view. When the doctor applies the vinegar-like solution to the infected area the infected area may turn white thereby making the infected area more visible then before. After confirmation of the presence of genital warts, the doctors may either prescribe medications or other physical methods of genital wart removal. Common medications that the doctors prescribe are genital wart cream. These genital wart creams are considered to be very effective.
Cryocautery is one of the physical methods of genital warts removal. Cryocautery is also called as Cryotherapy. This method used liquid nitrogen for the genital warts removal. This method may cause a little discomfort due to the procedures and is meant only for adults. Like Cryocautery, laser treatment is also a physical method that uses intense beam of light. Laser treatment is a little expensive then most of the other genital wart treatments and is usually kept as the last resort.
If you don’t have the funds to go in for laser treatments, you can try another effective treatment called as the Electrocautery treatment. In the Electrocautery treatment, electric current is used to super-heat a small needle. This superheated needle is then used to burn off the genital warts. To negate the pain, the doctors may give you a local anesthetic. Most of the physical methods may leave a scar, which may be noticeable throughout the life time.
Genital warts can be transmitted from one individual to another individual during a sexual intercourse. If the male has genital warts on the penis then it is advisable to use a condom to prevent the infection to spread to the female counterpart. During the treatment of the genital warts it is advisable to refrain from any sexual activity.
When you have genital warts, you need to take many precautions so that you do not aggravate the infection. If you irritate the genital warts, there are greater chances that the genital warts may spread further causing more discomfort. You must avoid the use the scented soaps to clean your genitals, instead you must use pain soaps that do not have strong aroma. Similarly, the use of bath oils and vaginal deodorants must also be avoided completely.
